Intern Opportunities at Precision Bioassay
One or two statistics graduate student interns
Interns will contribute to statistical consulting for pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies,
conduct a research project, and contribute to the development of bioassay analysis software.
The consulting work will include participating in phone meetings with clients, data analysis,
experimental design, and report writing. The research project will focus on statistical
methods for biological assays using nonlinear mixed models or generalized linear mixed
models; this may address questions about design or analysis, and will likely
involve simulation experiments.
The job requires experience and familiarity with R, mixed models, linear and nonlinear models
and at least one year of theory and one year of methods in statistics or a closely related field.
Substantial programming experience, a minor in computer science, training in biology, and
pharmaceutical industry experience are all desirable.
There are one or two internships available, depending on funding. Please only apply if you
will be a student returning to graduate study after this internship.
Applications will not be considered without all of: a cover letter, a resume, and a brief
description of at least one, and preferably two or three consulting projects. The description
of consulting projects is necessary because our consulting practice requires that we frequently
and succinctly communicate results to clients in writing. For each project, please describe the
practical problem being addressed, the statistical solutions you applied, and how the statistical
solution addressed the practical problem. Please do not submit a previously written paper, but
summarize the results of each project in one or two pages.
